2010 Daytime Emmy Award Highlights
June 29th, 2010 by admin

Watching the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards felt a lot like going out to eat with your grandparents. Forced to get all dressed up to get there early and then rush out. Guess CBS felt like cramming a lot in a small space would keep the audience awake. (Host Regis Philbin sure didn’t do it.)
The Bold & the Beautiful won Outstanding Drama, but all the focus was on As the World Turns which after 54 years on radio and television turned off it’s cameras once and for all. It was honored with a tribute montage and leading actors Maura Park and Michael West as well as Best Supporting Actress Julie Pinson taking home trophies.
The man of the hour was Dick Clark who had Ryan Seacrest preside in a musical tribute to his mentor featuring Marie Osmond, Chubby Checkers, and Tony Orlando. Cher, Garth Brooks and Simon Cowell showed up in a taped video montage. Seacrest opened the montage with the touching words, ” Even if I live to be 300, I could never fill your shoes.”
Oprah’s new BFF Ellen’s talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show took home the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show: Entertainment, but stepped aside to let Oprah’s pet Dr. Mehmet Oz swoop in to take the award for Outstanding Talk Show Host. Dr. Oz’s arch-nemesis The Doctors took home the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show, Informative.
I personally, learn more from Ben Bailey and Discovery Channel’s Cash Cab which took home the awards for Game Show Host and Game Show. It must be the flashing lights in that van and the Red Light Challenges…they just captivate your attention.
